Inflatable Grouting Packer for Mining and Tunneling

Key Features

Re-usable by design - inflate, grout, release and withdraw. The same packer can be used for many boreholes, which reduces the cost per hole on long grouting programmes.

Inflated with water by hand pump - the packer is connected to a hand pump with a resin hose and pumped with water to 5-10 MPa. When the pressure becomes stable the packer is fully expanded and sealing the borehole, so no mechanical anchoring is needed.

Steel grouting pipe inside - grout passes through the steel grouting pipe inside the packer, and the pipe can be flushed with high-pressure water after use ready for the next hole.

Long sealing section - the long rubber sealing element conforms to irregular, rough or slightly enlarged boreholes and gives a reliable seal where short mechanical packers fail.

Single, double and straddle arrangements - packers can be supplied for single-packer grouting or for double / straddle packer set-ups that isolate one specific injection interval.

Eight standard sizes - nominal diameters of 30, 42, 56, 72, 85, 102, 138 and 170 mm, covering boreholes from about 50 mm up to 330 mm.

Standard BSP joints, with NPT available - the grouting joint is available from 3/8" to 3" BSP and the water injection joint is 1/8" BSP for sizes 30-102 mm and 1/4" BSP for sizes 138 and 170 mm, matching common grouting pipes and hoses. NPT (American standard) threads can be custom-made on request; other connection standards require confirmation.

Made to Chinese mining standards - manufactured to MT/T 1110-2011 (General technical conditions for mine borehole packers) and Q/BT 004-2022, for grouting in mine tunnels at ambient temperatures from -20°C to +60°C.

Installation and Operation

1. Check the grouting packer for any damage before use.

2. Connect the hand pump to the grouting packer with the resin hose.

3. Connect the grouting packer to the grouting pump with a hose.

4. Insert the grouting packer into the borehole to the proper position.

5. Connect the water suction hose of the hand pump to a water source.

6. Pump water into the grouting packer with the hand pump until the pressure reaches 5-10 MPa. When the pressure becomes stable, stop pumping - the packer is now expanded and sealing the borehole.

7. Start the grouting pump and carry out grouting.

8. After grouting is completed, stop the grouting pump. When the cement slurry has partially set, open the hand pump to release the pressure and drain the water, then take the packer out of the borehole.

9. Flush the grouting steel pipe inside the packer with high-pressure water from the grouting pump to prepare for the next grouting operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the packer re-usable?

Yes. The grouting packer is designed for repeated use. After grouting you release the pressure, drain the water, take the packer out of the borehole and flush the internal grouting pipe with high-pressure water ready for the next hole.

How is the packer inflated?

With water, using a hand pump. The hand pump is connected to the packer with a resin hose and pumped until the pressure reaches 5-10 MPa. When the pressure becomes stable the packer is fully expanded and sealing the borehole.

What is the packer used for?

It is designed for borehole grouting in mine tunnels, and must not be used for any other purpose. It can be used at ambient temperatures from -20°C to +60°C.

Which size do I need for my borehole?

Match the maximum borehole diameter of the model to your borehole: 30 mm covers boreholes up to 50 mm, 42 mm up to 90 mm, 56 mm up to 110 mm, 72 mm up to 150 mm, 85 mm up to 170 mm, 102 mm up to 190 mm, 138 mm up to 250 mm and 170 mm up to 330 mm. If you are not sure, send us your borehole diameter and grouting pressure and we will confirm the correct model.

Can you supply NPT threads or double / straddle packers?

Yes. The standard joints are BSP (grouting joint 3/8" to 3" BSP, water injection joint 1/8" BSP for sizes 30-102 mm and 1/4" BSP for sizes 138 and 170 mm), and NPT (American standard) threads can be custom-made on request; other connection standards require confirmation. Single packers, double packers and straddle assemblies are also available.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

The minimum order quantity is 20 pieces per size. Production normally takes 15-20 days after receipt of payment, and samples can be supplied for evaluation.

Can the packer be branded with our company name?

Yes. For formal orders your company name or logo can be printed on the rubber element at no extra cost.
